Aptuit’s pathologists have built strong expertise in an integrated assessment approach, by using multiple tools and customized study designs. These irreplaceable tools; particularly histology, ultrastructure techniques and biomarkers, can be applied in a tailored manner to orient investigation addressing the tasks requested, from discovery (Discovery Pathology) to pre-clinical regulatory environments (Toxicologic Pathology).

Our pathologists have a solid scientific background and long standing experience in an array of fields. They are principally dedicated to Regulatory Toxicological Pathology in multiple species, but they are also involved in supporting investigative studies to target attrition issues and biomarkers identification and validation packages.

Beyond standard macroscopic and microscopic tissue examination, our team has developed a number of non-standard techniques to investigate complex issues such as:

  • Neurotoxicity (Extensive brain trimming and neurovacuolation studies)
  • Nephrotoxicity (Standard and molecular pathology in nephrotoxicants characterization)
  • Phospholipidosis, a recurrent toxicological issue cause of late-stage attrition

Furthermore, pathology at Aptuit benefits from a transmission electron microscopy unit.

Our pathologists call on the support of a very experienced team of technical staff for the production of histological preparations that use both standard techniques as well as special stainings that can be associated with immunohistochemistry or enzyme histochemistry, as required, to explore in detail potential toxic effects, or help discard risk.

GLP standards are applied to all Verona pathology activities, and INHAND terminology is used across studies. When required, internal or external peer review can be implemented.
