Aptuit names Dr Jan-Olav Henck as Chief Scientific Officer

Greenwich, CT, October 1, 2011 – Timothy C. Tyson, Chairman and CEO of Aptuit, Inc., announces the appointment of Dr. Jan-Olav Henck as Chief Scientific Officer, effective October 1, 2011. Dr. Henck will report to Stuart E. Needleman, President, Aptuit Scientific Operations. Mr. Tyson commented that the establishment of the CSO reflects the company’s commitment to provide scientific expertise and strongly supports Aptuit’s focus to engineer a better drug development process through scientific excellence.

Mr. Tyson explained, “Science is at the forefront of our mission, and we firmly believe that having a CSO in place will enhance our overall service offering. The CSO will coordinate the scientific capabilities and efforts of our company, managing developments as well as partnerships for pharmaceutical research and development.

In speaking of his new role at Aptuit, Dr. Henck said, "I am pleased to be Aptuit’s CSO, and I’m looking forward to the work that lies ahead, leading an outstanding scientific team. Our dedication to our clients’ success, anticipating their needs and addressing specific challenges, is our foremost objective. Jan-Olav Henck, a world renowned solid state chemist


Dr. Henck holds a doctorate in Physical Chemistry. After obtaining his Ph.D. he became an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation postdoctoral fellow (Feodor-Lynen-Programme) with Professor Joel Bernstein at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel. In 1999, Dr. Henck joined Bayer HealthCare in Leverkusen, Germany, where he focused on solid-state Chemistry of drugs and its impact on pharmaceutical formulations. Dr. Henck moved to the United States in 2005 when he was appointed Research Director in Analytical Research at SSCI in West Lafayette, Indiana. In the following year, he advanced to Senior Director of SSCI, leading the Chemistry Group with a primary focus on polymorphism studies, cocrystal and salt screening, amorphous screens and computational studies of drug substances. Most recently, Dr. Henck was Site Director for what had become Aptuit’s SSCI Division. To date, Dr. Henck has 5 patents and has co-authored 21 publications. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Purdue University, Department of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy.

Mr. Needleman noted that Dr. Henck has "worked tirelessly to further expand the scientific knowledge of peers and Aptuit clients." He said, "Aptuit could not ask for a more qualified, accomplished and dedicated scientist than Jan-Olav, whose talents and background make him the ideal Chief Scientific Officer at our company.
